MUGLER SPRING 2012- LOLA

http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2012RTW-TMUGLER?page=1
Nicola Formichetti is the creative director for Mugler. Oh yeah, and Lady GaGa's stylist. The show opened with a video of her but unlike Mugler's last show she made no live appearance. The collection had perfect slits in the most perfect of fabrics. The styling was absolutley amazing, and the mood was unexpected yet welcome. The Mugler woman for this spring will be satisfied.

MANISH ARORA SPRING 2012- LOLA

http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2012RTW-MARORA
The spirit of the Avant Garde flew like birds at Manish Arora's show. The materials glistened and the models body's mishapen by the garments as Arora always does so well. Although, the show made the clothes look like you could wear them to a cafe as the models did in the seating. It was very ironic. Oh, I almost forgot the beginning has quite a surprise!

GARETH PUGH SPRING 2012- LOLA

http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2012RTW-PUGH
Gareth Pugh= one of my favories. Everything he does is amazing and dumbfounding. He sees a collection as a flow of ideas (plural) not a representation of one idea spread out. I have to admit this is my favorite Gareth Pugh collection yet. If you like this collection, scroll through the archives to find genius in what is Gareth Pugh. I chose this look above because i wanted to break the ice for people who have never seen him before. It is the finale piece and one of four looks that gave the collection a complete 180. This collection trully is a Gareth Pugh flow of many ideas.

MUA MUST HAVES-THIS IS FROM MY OLD BLOG- ALEX

What every Makeup Artist carries in there kit is something personal, and It will vary so much between every artist. MUA’s carry the things that they feel most comfortable using.  For example a MUA who prefers using a stippling brush to apply liquid foundation will probably not carry as many sponges as someone who uses sponges to apply foundation.

For the most basic of makeup artist’s kits you have to at least have:
-foundation
-eye shadow
-lipstick
-brushes
-mascara
-Makeup remover

Though a good, experienced, Makeup Artist will carry:

2+ types of foundation- The reason a MUA should carry two or more different types of foundation is because not everyone’s skin type will work with 1 type of foundation. For example a liquid foundation will not work with an extremely oily bride because she will look like an oil slick. But an extremely dry bride will not look good with a just a powder foundation because it will dry her out and she will get dry patches. You need to have 2 contrasting types of foundation in your kit. I carry liquid foundation, mineral powder foundation and cream foundation so that way I can suit all skin types.

LOTS of eye shadow- What eye shadows you bring can vary job to job. For example you would not bring a lots of bright colors and little natural/nude colors to a wedding.  Always ask what look you will be doing before you go to the job so you can pack the appropriate colors.

Lipstick/lip gloss- Lipstick is probably the product that can change the look the most. A good MUA will have complimentary colors of lipsticks/ lip gloss to all skin tones. This should include browns, pinks, oranges, reds, nudes, and corals.

Blushes- Depending on the type of makeup you are doing and the type of lipsticks you carry you don’t always have to carry a lot of blush because lipsticks can serve as blushes.  But just like lipsticks a good MUA will have complimentary colors of blushes to all skin tones. This should include browns, pinks, oranges, reds, nudes, and corals.

Concealer- depending on the type of foundation you carry this can sometimes be an optional item to carry. For example if you carry a full coverage cream foundation then that is completely ok to substitute a concealer because they are practically the same thing. A good MUA though will always carry concealer for all skin type as well as color correctors.

Eye/lip liners- A good MUA should always have many different types of eye/lip liners in many different colors. The two most absolute must eyeliners are black and brown. MUA’s should carry pencil liners because they are the easiest to keep sanitary. Other eye liner that should be carried is liquid and cream. You should have black, different shades of browns and a variety of other colors. They should also have a variety of lip pencils but the musts are a nude (can use light brown eye liner) deep red, cherry red, pink, and a coral.

Brushes- A good MUA will carry many different types of brushes for many different purposes. They will also carry multiples of frequently used brushes.

Highlights, contours and bronzers- These are MUSTS for runways and photo shoots, but you can SOMETIMES get away with not using these on brides. A good MUA should have bronzers, contours and highlights in colors for every skin tones. A contour can be subbed with foundation 2 shades darker than your natural skin tone and highlights are 2 shades lighter.

Primers- There are two main types of primer, face primer and eye primer. A good MUA will normally carry a face primer for normal skin types and a face primer for oily skin. If they feel it is necessary they might also carry color correcting primers. For eye primers they will normally carry colored liquid or cream primers. Other primers they might carry are lip, or mascara primers.

Mascara- a good MUA will normally carry two different colored mascaras (brown&black) but might also carry colored mascara or clear mascara.

Removers/ skincare- MUA’s should always carry makeup removers, cleansers, moisturizers, toners, and elixirs.

Tools- Tools every MUA should have are: disposable lipgloss and mascara wands, cotton products, sponges, eyelash curlers, tweezers, eyebrow shapers, eyelash glue, spatulas, alcohol, sharpener, palette, headbands/hair pins, sanitizers, etc.

False eyelashes- False eyelashes are not always necessary but you need to be prepared. You should carry individual lashes, natural strip lashes, dramatic strip lashes, and maybe a couple really dramatic lashes.

Sprays- there are different liquids that all MUA’s should carry. The most common liquids are water, alcohol, and brush cleaner. Optional sprays that a MUA should carry are fixers and sealers to de-cake or seal makeup.

MARC JACOBS SPRING 2012-LOLA

http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2012RTW-MJACOBS?page=1
Some people ask...Is Marc Jacobs' height reached its peak? Is he now on decline? Well I have to answer their question with another question: When is there ever a "peak" for true greatness?
Marc Jacobs is said to be the next creative director of Christian Dior. He already has his own label and is creative head of Louis Vuitton. There is no stopping Marc Jacobs. The intention for this collection was for it to look surreal and dream like. It certainly was like a dream for me. the three elements that stand out are sheer, gloss and shine which add to the dreamlike effect. Imagine, you sleeping and Marc Jacobs whispering in your ear telling you what to see in your mind's eye. This is the vision. BEAUTIFUL.FOREVER.MARC.JACOBS.

AMERICAS NEXT TOP MODEL.-ALEX

Ok I know im late on posting this by like 24 hours, but all well. so the season premiere of AMNT (america's next top model) was the biggest "wannabe" and fail i have ever seen in any fashion oriented reality show. I can't even tell you who won, and who went home because i lost interest in it that quickly. Tyra was trying to do a "special" cycle about how they bring back the biggest drama queens and "fan favorites" to all compete once again. ummm hello.. someones ratings are low and there trying to figure out how to get better ones...

Ok, so naturally i dislike the show because its "americas NEXT TOP MODEL" it gives the contestants no real chance to really do that, and contestants who i actually know on previous cycles (including a winner) say they like to leave it out or resumes and that if someone finds out about them on the show they tend to not get jobs. why? because AMNT looks for drama queens, and not serious, professional models or they ask for them to act like drama queens. Also there "challenges" are COMPLETELY unrealistic, no one would ever do any of the challenges that they ask in the real world.

The show is really just smoke and mirrors to entertain the general population thinking that they see what really happens behind the scenes, and industry professionals are ashamed of the show. Oh but back to my review of THIS season. yea.. its no better, ill watch it for the judging at the end, that's the only really helpful part of the show. Ill probably keep doing reviews on the show this cycle, unless i stop watching it.

:)

JEREMY SCOTT SPRING 2012-LOLA

http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2012RTW-JSCOTT
Jeremy Scott's inspiration for this collection was the Wild West. Jeremy Scott is one of my personal favorites. I have always adored his outrageous and ironic style for as long as I have loved fashion. The collection was filled with bright graphics and provocative male models. Beware! they may just take your breath away!

MARCHESA SPRING 2012-LOLA

http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2012RTW-MARCHESA?page=1
Marchesa hasn't done a runway show since the label's inception five years ago. The collection itself is a beacon of evening elegance and complete beauty. The defining detail of this collection was the fringe. The fringe looks like it was sewn by the gods themselves. The gowns were flawless as usual and there is NO doubt in my mind that celebrities will fight to wear these on the red carpets. Overall...Perfection.

JEAN SERIES 2- POCKETS AND DESIGNS JEAN -ALEX

Pockets have more to do with jeans other then functionality, they can completely change the look of your jeans how they look on you. The most dramatic changes you will see our on the butt. If your pockets are small, or farther apart it tends to make your butt look bigger. If you wear a pair of jeans that has very large pockets your butt can look smaller. Another thing that can make your butt look bigger are designs, mainly on the pocket. I suggest no matter what size you are, to never wear jeans with horizontal lines or designs on the butt or thigh area. It will just make you look wider, and i don't think ANYONE wants that. You should also be careful about vertical designs on the butt area because it can make your butt look longer which can age you. You should also wear jeans that look your age. Yes, not all jeans are for all ages. For example a 12 year old shouldn't wear high wasted stretch jeans, and a 50 year old should wear jeans with jewels or that are bright colors. It just wont look right either way.

I think i covered everything i wanted to on this section.
thanks! -ALEX

JENNY PACKHAM SPRING 2012-LOLA

http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2012RTW-JPACKHAM?page=1
Jenny Packham is a name I have never heard before. And why haven't I? I had a hard time picking a favorite look to use for the picture because there were so many that I liked! This one in particular made my jaw drop because of the sheer perfectness of the look. The way a red head wore the perfect color dress for her skin and hair, the plunging neckline, and the way her body looks in the dress was all perfect. This was a diverse and vibrant collection and a highlight for me so far this Fashion Week.

ALICE+OLIVIA SPRING 2012-LOLA

http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2012RTW-ALICEOLIVIA?page=1
We do share SOME  similarities in our name with this label. Alex loves this one. For this spring, if you want retro, girly and clean all in one look no further than Alice+Olivia. Although no runway show you can still see the looks on style.com which is where I get all the photos I use. This collection was so commercial, if it had a runway show, it would be streamed during the superbowl. Great collection for great label....and a great name ;)

CHRISTIAN SIRIANO SPRING 2012- LOLA

http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2012RTW-CSIRIANO
To me Christian Siriano, Winner of Project Runway and coiner of the use of "feirce" in fashion, is just as credible as any other designer with no reality roots. He has gone without much critical success because of the impression people have as the Snooki of fashion. I personally love Christian and his OTT (over the top) gowns. He seems more approachable than the next designer. His collection this season was full of great peices and lola's favorie, gowns. The collection this spring by Christian Siriano lives up to his motto, FIERCE!

JEANS ON THE NAILS TOO-LOLA

Jeans are also a great fit for your nails. Continuing Alex's post, jeans are really in right now and on every part of your body. Jean jackets especially are in but many designers are throwing limited edition nail colors that are denim themed! Chanel and Dior are two of many brands with great denim colors. You can find your "finger jeans" online if you perfer Chanel but I am sure local or cheaper retailers will have a great selection as well.

WHAT JEANS ARE RIGHT FOR YOU? PART 1 -ALEX

Ok, so the search for the right pair of jeans can be very hard, annoying, and long as hell. You can walk into any clothing store and be bombarded by a wall of jeans of different sizes, cuts, washes, etc. You can find a great fitting pair of jeans from anywhere from $30 to $3000, its all about how much you feel like spending. Some places I love to get jeans under $100 are kohl's, Gap, Maurices, vintage stores, bebe and lucky brand. Some places I love to get jeans over $100 are places like Guess, Saks, and Dillard's.

FYI all photos were found on google images..

Here are the main types of jeans-

This is where things can get kind of overwhelming, you have to find out what fits, colors, and washes look best.

The most important thing that I think most women have the hardest problem with is finding pants that make there thighs look good!!
The two most important things that make the biggest difference when it comes to the look of your legs are the wash, and cut.

When it comes to wash, and your afraid of your thighs looking to big you  need to stay away from jeans with a lighter thigh area, it will act just like a highlight and contour on your face, it will make it look bigger and draw more attention to that area.

When it comes to cut you do not want something that curves to much around your waist to thigh area, and then is just straight down to your calf. The picture can explain it better then i can. The best way to avoid this is to not purchase jeans that are very stretchy or a "stretch fit."

The last thing that can make the biggest difference is length. There should always have two different lengths of jeans in your closet, your flats length and your heels length because your legs will appear longer if you are wearing heels and have your jeans covering some of them. You never want your jeans to end when your leg does, try to get pants 2-4 inches longer then your leg so that you have more of relaxed fit.
TIP- if you have larger feet a great way to make them appear smaller is to wear a boot cut style jean, high heels and then have your jeans cover the majority of the heel to where your feel look smaller.

THIS WILL BE A SERIES OF POSTS ABOUT JEANS, STAY TUNED!!

Makeup For Ever- is it from the gods, or only a simple piece of perfect? -ALEX

Makeup For Ever is a brand created by artist Dany Sanz. Dany is a french artist, business women, and all around kick ass girl! There products range from everything from a simple lipgloss with high pigmentation, long lasting hours, to fake blood that smells sooo good to glitter by the ounce.

Makeup forever is the majority of my professional makeup kit and pretty much all of my everyday "go to's" in my personal stash. There has yet to be a single thing from Makeup For Ever that i have not liked. The extent they go to test there products is insane, for example there aqua line which is WATERPROOF was tested on a professional synchronized swim team in salt, fresh and pool water. Another fun thing that they do to prove that there products are amazing in all ways... for there HD line they launched a national add campaign of untouched photos and videos by any form of Photoshop.  Here is one of the videos-

So all im saying is that if you haven't already gone and seen and tried some of there products go to your local sephora and try them out!! Or if you can go to there boutique in New York, which i loved, go check out there full line!

THE ROW SPRING 2012-REVIEW-LOLA

http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2012RTW-ROW
The Row is a label started by none other than the Olsen Twins themselves. Last season they had a crocodile bag for sale that you would have to sell your Mercedes Benz to afford (because everyone has one right, I didnt think so.) The Collection however was all white and no other color. White is one of my favorite colors but i like others too. Other than that the collection gave you a feeling of floating and levetation. Possibly a little angellic. The look above is a perfect example of this because behind the pants is a flowing tail of white that helps this model glide across the catwalk, a feeling we all strive to have everyday.....or at least me

MANDY COON SPRING 2012- REVIEW- LOLA
http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2012RTW-MCOON
Mandy Coon is one of my favorite lesser knowns from New Yok. This season the collection was cool, calm yet chaotic. The slits and skin openings were intriguing and the overall grunge of the styling was my favorite part. The look above stood out for me for two reasons: one because I absolutley love asian models and two because I loved the use of triangles crossing the body. They open at the bodess, peek out with the blue and cross the skirt on the black. Alot of people could pull the geometric look off. And alot of people would love Mandy Coon if they looked.

Fashion Week....

...............and it is like New Years. These next two months will be a time of rediscovering style. A time many people consider to be the perfect time to reinvent yourself. I personally changed my hairstyle for instance. Thats the wonderful thing about style is that you can make it whatever you want to be. New York has some interesting shows so far and I get more exited as it goes along. The beginning is exiting to see the designers that havent quite broken through yet. I feel like they are a secret talent that I can spread to the world. And twoards the end is all the wonderful awe inspiring big names that surprise and make your jaw drop. There is nothing more exiting like fashion week. I am not an insider, but i would never want to be because the surprise is the best part
